White Croakers in San Francisco Bay

White Croakers (Genyonemus lineatus)

Distribution of white croaker in San Francisco Bay
Within the San Francisco Bay their distribution is primarily confined to the more marine embayments San Pablo Bay, Central Bay, and South Bay. The various life stages exhibited different seasonal distribution patterns within the Bay. The 1+ fish tend to have a more restricted distribution than the YOY and are found primarily within the Central Bay.

From spring to mid-summer the highest densities of white croaker YOY were found within San Pablo and South Bays. As the summer progress, the YOY fish migrate towards the Central Bay. By winter they, along with the smaller 1+ fish, emigrate out of the Bay.

Annual abundance indices for the white croakers are generated by the San Francisco Bay Monitoring Program using otter trawl data.
