The shimofuri goby was introduced into the San Francisco Bay/Estuary in the mid 1980's. It appears be confined to the brackish to freshwater regions of the Bay and Delta.
It has increased its range southward via the California Aquaduct and now occurs in
a number of Southern California reserviors
Annual abundance indices for shimofuri gobies are
generated from the San Francisco Bay Monitoring Program
using otter trawl data.
