Weekly beach seining surveys are used to estimate the relative inter- and
intra-annual abundance and distribution of all races of salmonid fry, using the
Delta as a rearing and nursery area.
Beach seining has been conducted since 1976 on the Sacramento River and in
the Northern and Central Delta. There was also a circuit done in the
San Francisco/San Pablo Bay areas in the 1980's. The Southern Delta and
San Joaquin River regions were not added until 1993 and 1994, respectively.
