PDELT- Parasites, Deformities, Fin Erosion, Lesions, Tumors
| In November 2005, the JFMP began monitoring fish anomalies in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Estuary. Fish that are caught in seine and trawl sampling efforts are examined for the presence of Parasites, Deformities, Fin Erosions, Lesions and Tumors; collectively known as "PDELT". An additional category (Other) was included for occasionally seen anomalies such as fungi and hemorrhaging. Preliminary results from the first eight months of data collection can be seen here.
Goals for the PDELT project include:
-continuation of monitoring to gain a complete picture of fish anomalies temporally and spatially throughout the Sacramento-San Joaquin Estuary
-statistical analysis of data once a larger data set is obtained
-further monitoring actions, such as water quality, to identify critical areas and/or times to closely document fish health
