ERPIN Viewer - What is GIS?
What is the GIS? A Geographic Information System (GIS) is used to view and analyze data from a spatial or geographic perspective.
A GIS links location to information. Some example links could be, species to habitat types, vegetation to soil types or temperature differences in a watershed. You can also use a GIS to locate information, such as a stream in a hydrolodgical network, or a parcel of land in a community. By combining these various layers of information together, you can get a better understanding of how it all interrelates.
